American Indian Kitchen Midden An area where people lived and disposed of their garbage. Usually consists of food remains ( for example animal bones and shells ), but also contained discarded artifacts. The original midden was flattened out in 1930 to build the airport control tower to the right. This midden originally stood 10 feet high and a hundred feet long. In 1996 Pinellas county restored the midden to this area.
The cut you are looking at is a representation of what the midden looked like
before 1930.
