The BIG EYE
is designed for schools, libraries, ISP's, cybercafés, and for
intelligent people who expect the World Wide Web to be more than a glorified
mail-order catalogue, an online flea-market, and a huge advertising
billboard. The business
Credo
of
Elbert Hubbard
includes a statement that helps to
sum up our own view:
Take full advantage of The BIG EYE by eventually "surfing" all twelve core pages . You will be amply rewarded by many hours of browsing pleasure, and acquire a liberal education at your own pace.

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)
was started in 1990 on the
rec.arts.movies
newsgroup by a group of movie fans. Before the first web browser was being
widely distributed, it was a set of scripts and files that allowed you to build
your own local copy of the database on your own Unix-based computer.
The core of their site is their search capabilities. They catalog all sorts of information on over 200,000 movie & TV titles plus even more on over 400,000 actors and actresses, nearly 40,000 directors and hundreds of thousands of other people who help make magic on the big and small screens. Then they take all that information, organize it into a cool structure, and make it possible for you to easily search and browse through it... FOR FREE. |
